It is not so much the solitary notes or the composition in this track that grab me, but rather the expansive vast spaces they create. It is a mesmerizing piece that takes me to evolving places I've never been. Love it.
Favorite track: Distant Lights.
"Distant Lights" is the first Crows Labyrinth track that features a minimal, improvised piano composition, accompanied by a soothing soundscape that is generated from the sparse piano notes. Despite the change of instrument, the track still has that distinct ambient Crows Labyrinth sound.
" This track came out spontaneously while experimenting with different sounds, " says Theo. " I wanted to hear what would happen if I used a different instrument with my ambient effect chains that I used on recent recordings. I was so happy with what came out of these experiments, that I decided to release it as a single. I hesitated at first, because I recorded all my previous releases using only bass guitars. So I put out a demo version first on Soundcloud to see what people would think of it. The responses were overwhelmingly positive, so here we are a few months later with an official release! "
Theo adds: " When you hear this track, you will probably notice that it's inspired by the recent ambient work of Brian Eno and by science fiction movie soundtracks. The fact that this track features piano sounds doesn't mean that there won't be any ambient bass guitar music released in the future. Rest assured, there will be enough music featuring bass guitar after this release. "
About Crows Labyrinth:
Crows Labyrinth is an ambient project, conceived by Theo Tol from the Netherlands. The aim of the project is to create ambient cinematic soundscapes using solely bass guitars (well, usually ;-) ) and effects processing. The soundscapes preferably have to be created in one take, one improvisation, one flow of sound.
Crows Labyrinth is inspired by many artists. These names are a small selection: Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, Tangerine Dream, Steven Wilson (with his Bass Communion and I.E.M. projects), Tom Heasley, Loscil, Clem Leek.
This track may also be interesting for fans of Atrium Carceri, Raison d'Être, Lustmord and Biosphere.
